If you are looking to experience old school Paris under an American brand, you have come to the right place. “Westerners wanting Europe” is how I would describe the vibe at this hotel. The only thing French about this hotel are the people that work there. Just to get that out there! However, I will say that this hotel is truly the epitome of old school luxury.

-Rooms-

The rooms at the Westin Paris are on the small side, which is not that shocking as most hotel rooms in Europe run on the small side. However, this room did feature Westin’s ultra world famous Heavenly Bed, which nobody in their right mind can complain about. However, the best part of the room was not the bed or the bathroom, it was the amazing view (check out the pictures). As a Starwood Preferred Guest I was surprised to find a bottle of white wine on ice by the window with a tag that said “drink me…fast!” Ok, there was no tag saying “drink me” - that is what it probably said in French. That was the most exciting thing about the room, as the rest of the room was pretty standard with all the regular Westin room amenities.

-Food-

The cuisine at signature restaurant Le First was quite tasty; the only thing that slightly left a bad taste in my mouth were the drunk folks from Tennessee who were dining not too far away from me. These people were so loud that the entire restaurant was either laughing at them or looking at them with disgust. I was doing more laughing, but the food was great! I wouldn’t describe it as traditional French cuisine, it would be like a contemporary spin on modern food.

-Bottom Line-

This is an all-around great hotel, but the best part of the hotel is its location. You are directly across the street from the Jardin des Tuileries (The Tulip Gardens) and within 20 minutes (maybe a little more) walking distance from the Eiffel Tower. If you are looking for a true end-to-end authentic French experience don’t come to this hotel. If you are looking for the comfort of an American hotel brand in a foreign land, this is perfect for you. Rates at this hotel are pretty pricey (around $450 per night) which is not uncommon at all for hotels in the high-end shopping district of Paris. With that being said, this hotel is for the mover, shaker, money-maker kind of crowd.  But if you have the money to spend,

-Know Before You Go-

  • This hotel is located in a very touristy area of Paris, not always a bad thing
  • The hotel is about a 35 to 45 minute cab ride from Paris-Charles De Gaulle Airport and about 30 minutes from Paris-Orly Airport
  • Definitely a great hotel for folks that want the familiarity of an American brand, go with what you know
  • There is a romantic essence to this hotel, so bring that special someone!
