Le Meridien Nice
You Too Can Tan With The Movie Stars
Hotel Personality: Mover, Shaker, Money-Maker
-Vibe-
Ladies and gentlemeN, welcome to the most hip hotel in Nice, France. Walking in you’ll ascend into the hotel via escalator to the main lobby, where you will be teleported to some other place outside of the south of France. To be honest, I am not sure how to describe the vibe of this hotel (See the Video!). There are people from all over the world, but they share one thing in common, which is the love for something different. In a city full of traditional French Riviera luxury, the people that you will see at this hotel are searching for something more.
-Rooms-
Walking into the room, the first thing that I noticed was that this is not your traditional beach side hotel room. In fact, you will see that the room itself takes on the characteristics of something you would see in a chic London or New York boutique hotel. I though this was a very smart move because it allows the hotel room itself to not be the focal point - the view was definitely (and intentionally) the star of the show. The room featured floor to ceiling windows, and since it was a corner room, you could take in both the city and the beach from all areas - even the bathroom! I swear, if I’d had enough money in the world, and if the Le Meridien Nice were selling its rooms as apartments, I’d surely break my back to buy one.
-Food-
The food left a little more to be desired. It was probably a mix of the service and the food itself. Honestly, I wouldn’t encourage anyone to eat in the hotel unless you are quarantined to the hotel. Why, you may ask? Because Nice has a million great restaurants, so why would you want to waste the gastronomic experience for something mediocre just outside out of your door?
As there are many restaurants within close proximity to the hotel, I’d really wanted to see the unique experience in the hotel room permeate into the food. I dined at La Terrase on the rooftop, and the food was good but not unique. I think the hotel has a great opportunity to do something over the top that appeals to the global guest that comes to stay at this distinctive hotel.
-Bottom Line-
Nice is nice! This is clearly one of my favorite cities on the planet, and Le Meridien Nice could easily be one of my favorite hotels. It has a great location, situated right in the heart of Nice on the Promenade des Anglais, and offers you a different experience than many of its traditional French Riviera counterparts. With rooms that start at around $200.00 USD per night, this is a hotel for the cautiously lavish, with reasonable prices for those looking to elevate their French Riviera experience.
-Know Before you Go-
- Bring your jogging shoes! The Promenade Des Anglais is right outside the front door and makes for a great place to jog in the mornings before it gets too hot
- The Le Meridien Nice provides free admission to the Contemporary Art Museum in Nice, which is about a 15 minute walk from the hotel
- Beware of the cabbies charging your crazy cab fare from the Nice airport to the hotel
- Don't normally do this but...check out the hotel's video below. Pretty sexy huh?
